Lymphocytes (Lymph#)

Adaptive immune cells — critical for antitumour immunity.

What it is

Lymphocytes include T cells, B cells, and NK (natural killer) cells. They coordinate the adaptive immune response, including immune surveillance against tumour cells. Absolute lymphocyte count (ALC) reflects immune competence.

Why it matters

Chemotherapy and other treatments deplete lymphocytes. Persistent lymphopenia (low lymphocyte count) signals compromised immunity and is associated with worse outcomes. ALC recovery after treatment is a meaningful prognostic indicator.
