Monocytes (Mono#)
Immune cells that bridge innate and adaptive immunity.
What it is
Monocytes are large immune cells that can differentiate into macrophages and dendritic cells. They play roles in inflammation, pathogen clearance, and immune regulation.
Why it matters
Elevated monocytes can indicate chronic inflammation, infection, or certain cancers (monocytosis). Low monocytes during chemotherapy reflect generalised bone marrow suppression. Tracking them provides additional context on immune status.
How to test
Full blood count differential.
