Blood Count · ×10⁹/L
Neutrophils (NEUT#)
Your first-line defenders against bacterial infection.
What it is
Neutrophils are the most abundant white blood cells and the primary response against bacterial infections. Absolute neutrophil count (ANC) is the most clinically critical number for assessing infection risk during chemotherapy.
Why it matters
ANC below 0.5 ×10⁹/L defines febrile neutropenia — a medical emergency. Your oncologist will use ANC to determine whether your next chemo cycle is safe to proceed, and whether you need G-CSF (white cell stimulating injections) to support recovery.
How to test
Full blood count differential.
