Phosphorus (Inorganic Phosphate)
Bone mineral and ATP building block — moves inversely with calcium.
What it is
Phosphorus (measured as inorganic phosphate) is essential for bone mineralisation, ATP energy production, and cell membrane integrity. It is regulated in parallel with calcium via parathyroid hormone and vitamin D.
Why it matters
Abnormal phosphorus levels can signal kidney disease, bone disease, or parathyroid disorders. Hypophosphataemia causes muscle weakness, bone pain, and impaired energy metabolism. It is clinically relevant in the context of chemotherapy-related renal tubular dysfunction.
How to test
Standard metabolic or renal panel.

Optimal range
