Nutrition Principles
No Dairy for IGF-1 Control
Dairy is the strongest dietary driver of IGF-1 elevation.
What
Dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt) contain high levels of bioactive compounds that stimulate IGF-1 production. In serious illness, elevated IGF-1 may support cell proliferation.
Why
Multiple studies show dairy consumption increases serum IGF-1 by 20-30%. For people managing serious conditions, reducing dairy may help maintain lower IGF-1 levels.
Evidence
The China Study and subsequent research show dairy protein (casein) is a potent IGF-1 stimulator. Plant proteins have minimal effect on IGF-1 compared to dairy.
Implementation
Eliminate or significantly reduce dairy. Replace with plant-based alternatives (unsweetened almond, oat, or soy milk).
Caution
Ensure adequate calcium and vitamin D from alternative sources. Fortified plant milks can provide similar nutrients.
