Stress / Adaptogen
Ashwagandha (KSM-66)
The most validated adaptogen for cortisol, stress resilience, and sleep quality.
What it is
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an Ayurvedic adaptogenic root. KSM-66 is the most comprehensively researched full-spectrum root extract, standardised to withanolide content and manufactured to pharmaceutical standards. It is one of the most studied adaptogens in peer-reviewed trials.
Why it matters
Ashwagandha significantly reduces cortisol β the primary stress hormone that, when chronically elevated during illness, impairs immune function, disrupts sleep, accelerates muscle catabolism, and amplifies inflammation. It also supports thyroid axis function, modestly raises testosterone, and improves sleep quality and VOβmax.
The evidence
A 2019 RCT in the Journal of Evidence-Based Integrative Medicine found KSM-66 (300mg 2Γ/day) reduced cortisol by 27.9% and improved quality of life measures significantly vs placebo over 60 days. Multiple additional trials confirm effects on stress, sleep quality, cognitive function, and physical performance. The evidence base is unusually robust for a botanical supplement.

Dosing
300β600mg KSM-66 or Sensoril extract daily. Take in the evening (cortisol-lowering effect supports sleep onset). Effects build over 4β8 weeks of consistent use. Can also be split morning and evening.
Cautions
May affect thyroid hormone levels β monitor TSH/FT3 if on levothyroxine. Avoid during pregnancy (uterine stimulant in high doses). Rare reports of liver stress at very high doses. Some immunomodulatory activity β check with oncologist if on immunotherapy.

Ashwagandha KSM-66 300mg
Insist on KSM-66 or Sensoril branded extracts β they have the most clinical research. Generic "ashwagandha" root powder at cheap prices has minimal evidence behind it. Look for standardised withanolide content (min 5%).
