Biobran (MGN-3 / Arabinoxylan)

A modified rice bran extract with NK cell activation backed by oncology-specific clinical data.

What it is

Biobran (also sold as MGN-3 in the US) is arabinoxylan rice bran — created by enzymatic hydrolysis of rice bran with shiitake mushroom enzymes. It is one of the most potent natural NK cell activators ever characterised, with specific research in oncology settings.

Why it matters

NK (Natural Killer) cells are the immune system's primary cancer surveillance mechanism — they identify and destroy cells that display markers of malignancy. Biobran has demonstrated 300-fold increases in NK cell activity in some studies. In oncology, enhanced NK cell activity is associated with better treatment response and reduced recurrence across multiple cancer types.

The evidence

Published research from Dr. Mamdooh Ghoneum (Charles Drew University) and multiple clinical studies in Japan and the US. Studies show improved NK activity, increased survival in myeloma patients, and synergistic effects with various chemotherapy protocols. Biobran is available as a medical food in Japan.

Dosing

1–3g/day, divided across meals. Higher loading doses (3g) may be used initially, reducing to 1g maintenance. Product quality varies significantly — only products from manufacturers with published research data are appropriate.

Cautions

Expensive — ensure purchase from manufacturers with published clinical research (Daiwa Health Development or equivalent licensed distributors). Avoid during checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy without oncologist guidance. Generic "rice bran extract" is not equivalent.
