Haematocrit (HCT)

The proportion of blood volume occupied by red cells.

What it is

Haematocrit is the percentage of blood volume made up of red blood cells. It moves in parallel with haemoglobin and red cell count — the three together give a comprehensive picture of oxygen-carrying capacity.

Why it matters

HCT changes during treatment confirm or corroborate HGB trends. Very low HCT (<25%) is associated with severe anaemia and symptoms at rest. Tracking it provides cross-confirmation of your anaemia trajectory.
