RBC (Red Blood Cell Count)

The total number of oxygen-carrying red blood cells.

What it is

Red blood cells carry haemoglobin, which binds and transports oxygen from the lungs to every cell in the body. RBC count measures the total number of these cells per litre of blood.

Why it matters

Chemotherapy commonly suppresses red blood cell production. A falling RBC contributes to anaemia, which causes fatigue, breathlessness, and reduced treatment tolerance. Tracking RBC alongside HGB gives a fuller picture of oxygen-carrying capacity.
